I tried different ways to improve my self-esteem with healthy food and sometimes I do the Dukan diet that makes me lose kilos quickly but increases my obsession for eating sweets. I read about whole wheat grain who increases insulin and makes you feel hungry a lot so I use oat bran a teaspoon in a yogurt 0 fat which helps you to eat less and it s high in fibres. I am always in a up and down row with my body and this doesn't help my self-esteem. I think I need a equilibrium and honestly I feel amazing when I lose weight! Running is the best way but momentarily I m very lazy! =( x

I didn't need to intentionally do something to lose weight. This was the case until just one or two years ago. Every summer with the temperature going up every day, my body just got slimmer naturally and hit the number which I considered was ideal weight for my height without the need of any effort. Although I would always gain some weight after summer but it was within a healthy limit I reckoned, and the bit of extra weight is quite useful when you have to endure the cold weather. However, these couple of years my summer magic power has seemingly exhausted. I stay at the top end of my usual weight range all year round. I wanted to try to maintain a diet, but foods are too tempting and I don't want to miss out the enjoyment of food in life. I think I will try some physical exercise like the lady said in the clip and see how it goes. I don't like running or running on a treadmill. It is boring. I don't enjoy those heavy equipment either. I guess it will be a while before I find something good. So in the meantime, let's forget about getting in shape, keep enjoying food and do nothing.

Since I was child until I got job in the first company I worked for, I was fat. But because almost all women in the office really look beautiful with good body shape, it made me want to lose weight. And I started to lose weight with many method. But only one method I found really good and I keep doing it until now to maintain my body keep being slim.
I always drink 2 glasses of warm water when I wake up and after 30 minutes, I drink squeeze lime (1 pcs only). And then start to eat at noon (12 or 13). I usually eat during at 12.00-20.00. And also must to drink at least 8 glasses of water. And I walk everyday for 30 minutes. And sleep 8 hours a day. Before sleep, remember to drink water.

I have no problem about my weight cause I exercise 5 days a week. My favorite food is vegetables and fruits. There are difference types of fruits through the year in Thailand. So I'm lucky lady. Anyway, I always drink 2 glasses of water in the morning before breakfast that makes me can't eat a lots.

I think the idea of self-esteem boost is relative. That is, it varies from person to person. For instance, there are people who feel that being too slim risks their association with peers as they may be stigmatized as AIDS patients. In this case, slimness does not bring much self-esteem to people who fear such labelling. On the other hand, most people also fear obesity and as such, any feeling of moving towards excessive fatness worries them because they also stand the risk of loosing close associations. So from this point, we see that self-esteem boost is best determined by the "self" rather than the world of observers.

Hello teacher,
I've got a doubt with the sentence "that generally does boost one’s self-esteem." My question is, could I use the verb "make" (like a causative verb)? I mean, the result of an action (do exercise) affects you.
Thank you very much!

Hello Sonia,

I'm not sure what alternative you're proposing; do you mean something like 'that generally does make one's self-esteem greater'? That's possible, though I prefer the version with 'boost' - it's simpler and sounds more natural to me.

Best regards,
Kirk

Hi Kirk
I explained really bad, I do apologize to you for that. My suggestion was "That generally make boost one’s self-esteem". I thought I could put a causative verb (make) to explain an action that you haven't done but at the end affects you.
Thank you very much
